Workshop abstract

National networks of citizen science projects are strengthening scientific citizenship in Europe in unprecedented ways. The main goal of this session is to bring these networks and stakeholders together to draw a strategic action plan for an alliance with a common European agenda. This alliance will help connecting people to science at a wider scale across regions and cultures. It will seek also to open new avenues for interaction, to bring new opportunities for exchange programmes and mobility, and, ultimately, to provide a stronger voice regarding the European governance. By fostering a constructive dialogue among citizen science activities and networks, this alliance will provide a framework to support each of them with new skill development in citizen science, as well as in project consortium building, enhanced advocacy and collaborative projects.
The session will kick-off with a brief input from on-going inspirational experiences of networking. A workshop will follow, taking the form of a participatory focus group. It will start by addressing critically the actual challenges faced by European cooperation in this area. Activities are designed to foster a lively discussion of ideas to draw a road map for a productive dialogue among citizen science projects and networks.
In the end, the session will have as an outcome a written report with recommendations for an alliance of citizen science in Europe, to be disseminated among like-minded networks, projects and stakeholders.
