This workshop will introduce the concept of open science as an emerging publishing model in Europe. It will highlight the importance of open science in promoting scientific progress, sharing knowledge, and facilitating collaboration among researchers.
Presentations from speakers will focus on emerging open science models using Open Research Europe (ORE) as a case study as well as other publisher and institution-led initiatives. Presentations will also cover the following topics:
- The benefits of emerging open science publishing models
- Local language publishing
- The future of ORE and the European Commission’s plans and objectives
- Diamond Open Access regional approaches
- Open science publishing from a researcher’s perspective
Following the presentations there will be a short interlude for an interactive question poll. Participants will be asked to answer a set of questions related to their understanding of the topics presented. These questions will then be addressed by the panel of presenters and the audience will be given the opportunity to ask questions and contribute to the discussion.
Participants will be asked to discuss the following questions:
- What are the potential benefits and challenges of publishing on open science platforms such as ORE?
- How can emerging models such as ORE help promote open research through regional initiatives, projects, and plans?
- What are the benefits and challenges of local language publishing?
The panel will summarise the key takeaways from the workshop, what steps can be taken to ensure its wider adoption, and the challenges that need to be addressed.
The workshop will conclude with a call to action to encourage participants to act towards promoting open science practices. Participants will be encouraged to share their experiences with their colleagues and collaborate on future projects.
Learning outcomes
Overall, this workshop aims to raise awareness of emerging open science models and practices, its potential benefits in promoting research, and its impact on the scientific community in Europe. The interactive format encourages participation and engagement among participants, enabling them to offer their insights and ideas towards advancing the goals of open science.
